Business Information

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, an archipelago of over 17000 islands with a population of more than 200 million, scattered over a land area of some 2.02 million square kilometers.

The ICT market in Indonesia is expected to bring opportunities for local and foreign vendors, as the country strives to embrace and deploy technologies in the hope to compete with countries in the ASEAN region.

"IT spending in Indonesia is valued at US$1.4 billion in 2003, representing 0.83% of the total Asia/Pacific IT spending market. While IT spending in Indonesia is one of the smallest in the region, its annual growth rate in 2003 is the largest in Asia/Pacific; with almost 21% in comparison to region's growth of 6%," says Huei Min Lee, Research Manager, Malaysian Enterprise Servers and Consulting Research, IDC Malaysia.

"Indonesia's IT services market reached US$206.4 million in 2003, recording an annual growth of 10.6% from 2002. Hardware deployment services take the top spot of the Indonesia IT services market with 19.7% share in 2004," says Roosman Fajar, Analyst, IT Services and Peripherals, IDC Indonesia.

"With a massive population of more than 200 million inhabitants and low teledensity, Indonesia is a market with huge growth potential for telecom services," said Lau Chi Weng, senior analyst, Asia/Pacific Telecommunications. "However, it is also a market that has been beset by challenges in terms of political and economic uncertainty. But despite these challenges, strong domestic demand and technology advancements have ensured that the overall telecommunications growth in Indonesia has not been completely derailed."

System level software makes up 67.9% of the total system infrastructure software and security software market achieved the relatively high growth of 22.3%
